What is Mermaid Hunter?
Mermaid Hunter is a sci-fi soap-opera produced exclusively for the Internet. Every month several new episodes will bring to life the central characters which just happen to be mermaids, sea sirens and, of course, humans! And while mermaids and sea sirens exist around the globe, Mermaid Hunter will base its stories and locations on the "colony" of sea creatures living in Key West, Florida.
Each month Mermaid Hunter will offer new episodes filled with drama and romance - with the best scenes acted out and captured on video and photography. Written and directed by Key Wester, Ed Papp, Mermaid Hunter will showcase local actors and film on location throughout the city and its famous underwater reefs.
Several years back, while Mermaid Hunter was still in its conceptual stage a Hollywood producer wanted to make Mermaid Hunter into a feature film. Similarly, a comic book company wanted to make Mermaid Hunter into a comic book series. But Mr. Papp told both parties to wait; he wasn't finished fleshing out his characters and he wanted to have some fun with the project before turning his creation over to Hollywood.
So, join us under the water and on the streets of Key West. On a personal note from Mr. Papp to all Key Westers reading this... if you want to get involved in Mermaid Hunter, write me using the link below - Mermaid Hunter is a community enterprise and offers opportunity for any creative person.
Synopsis of Mermaid Hunter – Our First Year (2011)... Casting Call for Key West Actors & Models
4000 years ago, the Greek gods created mermaids and sea sirens and they have been living amongst us humans ever since. Weekly episodes of Mermaid Hunter will bring these fabled creatures to life as never before.
Set in present day, the core drama of the soap will center
on the life of Dr. Edmund Papp, a human born to a siren yet fathered by
Poseidon, the Greek god of the Sea. His royal birthright, hidden from him for 60
years, is now finally revealed out of necessity. That's because mermaids
are dying from an unknown virus so lethal and widespread it threatens the very
existence of the mermaid species.
As mentioned, the drama in Mermaid Hunter unveils as a virus begins killing large numbers of mermaids. The dire situation demands immediate action so Dr. Papp quickly forms a secret team of experts who will live and work at his home based laboratory in Key West, Florida. His medical team members are:
Dr. Lycia Santos, 29 years old, Sea Siren, and member of the Rio de Janeiro colony. A gifted doctor in her own right, Lycia has dedicated her life’s work to mapping the Gnome structure of humans, mermaids and sea sirens, analyzing the differences and applying her theories to curing the “Siren’s Curse.”

Mar, 17 years old, Sea Siren. A phenom student from
Lesbos has an extraordinary mind and has already made scientific contributions
in the study and analysis of si-mer blood borne maladies. She believes she is
close to an antidote for the virus. Due to her mysterious birth, it is rumored
Mar is a daughter of the healing goddess Panaceia.

Mermaid Philia, 23, from the Havana, Cuba colony,
was initially infected by the virus but was able to fend off its spread and is
now healing rapidly. Philia feels her experience has meaning and importance and
insisted to be part of the team; to do her part in the fight to save her sister
mermaids. Dr. Papp agrees and has her brought to Key West.

Dr. John Hamada, 35, Dr. Papp’s apprentice. At
first, the Si-Mer Elders were not agreeable to his joining the team but Dr. Papp
insisted and after vicious debate the Elders relented; but with the warning he
would be watched by Guardians and killed immediately if he posed a security risk
to the secrecy of the Si-Mer Empire. Dr. Papp agreed. Now all he had to do is
tell Jerrod that mermaids really exist and he was about to save their species –
and if he told anyone he would die!
Who is the Real Mermaid Hunter?

Hello. My full name is Edmund B. Papp. I am a semi-retired commercial photographer from the New York/New Jersey area. I'm 60 years old and had several work titles in my lifetime; photographer, art director, photojournalist, computer artist, newspaper reporter, and a kick-ass MP in the military.
How I came to be a Key Wester is a true story I love telling. In my youth I would fall asleep dreaming of Tahiti and it's coral reefs, palm trees, island girls, and warm, sunny days. I was only 14 when I read an article in a National Geographic Magazine about Key West. It changed my life. According to the article (and those all important photos) Key West offered me everything Tahiti did - without having to swim the Pacific Ocean to get there. One week later my mom went to wake me up and found the proverbial 'note on the pillow' saying I'll be ok and not to worry. Yup, I hitchhiked from Princeton, NJ to Key West... and worked on the shrimpers for the rest of the summer. Mom, God bless her, knew it was my turn to go on 'Walkabout' and never made the police report to force me back home.
I've been returning to Key West ever since. Then, in 1999, I couldn't take it any longer and made the move permanent... blowing up every bridge once I crossed it. There simply was no going back. In the 11 years I have lived in Key West my trips off the rock can be counted on 1 hand.
My first camera was waterproof and it didn't take long for me to combine the two things I loved to photograph most: girls underwater. Mermaid Hunter is the result of a life-long passion. It's taken me 10 years to bring Mermaid Hunter to reality and I think it's the perfect project for this town of mine. If you like what you see and want to become involved, write me and let's talk... I'd love to have you aboard.
